Call to Worship based on Matthew 6 and Confession and Forgiveness
As we gather today, O God, we call to you:
People of God: Our Father, who art in Heaven.
As we gather today, we lift up who you are and what you represent:
People of God: hallowed be your name.
As we gather today, we seek your ways, not our own:6
People of God: Your kingdom come, your will be done.
As we gather today, we apologize to you and to one another:
People of God: Forgive us as we forgive.
As we gather today, we need you:
People of God: Give us this day our daily bread, lead us away from temptation, and deliver us from evil.
As we gather today, we pray.
People of God: Amen.

Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who makes all things new, whose mercy endures forever.
People of God: Amen.
Trusting in God’s mercy, let us confess our sin.

Silence is kept for reflection.

Holy One, source of our renewal,
People of God: we confess that we are wrapped up in sin, and cannot free ourselves. We have not practiced your righteousness. Our hearts have turned away from you. For the sake of the world you so love, forgive us, that we may be reconciled to one another for the glory of your holy name. Amen.
Thus says our God: “The former things have come to pass and new things I now declare.” God’s mercy makes us new. We are forgiven in the name of ☩ Christ our Savior.
People of God: Amen.

Prayer of the Day                                                                                                                                            Assisting Minister: Let us pray. Extravagant God, you have promised treasure in heaven that outweighs any we could envision or imagine on earth. Help us to be grateful for the amazing gifts you have already given to us. We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. People of God: Amen.

Reading  Matthew 6:7-21

Assisting Minister: 7“When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9“Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10Your kingdom come.|
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.
14For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; 15but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 16“And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; 20but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The word of the Lord. People of God: Thanks be to God

Prayers of the People
Assisting Minister: Sisters and brothers, let us lift our hearts in faith to the one who hears all prayers and holds close all those in need.

A brief silence.

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide the church with your agitating and powerful spirit, that we may boldly proclaim your radical and inclusive love. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide your life to fields and streams, birds and beasts, that your abundance may be shared with all. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide the nations with wise and compassionate rulers, that peace and justice reign and all the world thrive. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide your comfort to those confounded by worry and anxiety, that the light of your hope breaks through all darkness. We pray especially for victims of the latest mass shootings here in the United States. May your peace and healing be upon all communities affected by violence. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide healing to those in pain, especially Jessica, Alicia, the Knaack Family, the McDonough family, Jeanne, Barb, Cecil (See-sil), Stan, Marlene, Ryleigh, Dylan, Sandy, Hopie (Hope-y), the Lang family, the Mauger (maw-ger) family, Susan, the Bredemus (bread-a-mus) family, Allen, Bunny, the Vogt (vote) family, Richard, Pat, Pete, Dick, Karen, Patricia, Michael, Nicholas and his family, Beth, Jim, Kara (car-a), Betty, Tom, Lorie and her family, Pastor Kara (car-a) and those we name silently or aloud <pause>), that the wholeness you desire for us be known to all. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide direction, courage, and energy to this congregation, that we may leave our doors to love and serve our neighbors as you call us to do. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Please offer your own prayers of joy or concern, ending with “Lord, in your mercy,”
We respond with “hear our prayer.”

Assisting Minister: Our Father, provide faith and trust in you, that we may join with the saints in praising your glory. Lord, in your mercy, People of God: hear our prayer.

Holy God, you gather the whole universe into your radiant presence and continually reveal your Son as our Savior. Bring healing to all wounds, make whole all that is broken, speak truth to all illusion, and shed light in every darkness, that all creation will see your glory and know your Christ. People of God: Amen.

Hymn #746 Our Father, God in Heaven Above                         Played by Gloria Peetz Sung by Lorena Skelley

Our Father, God in heav’n above,
we pray, united in your love:
Your name be hallowed. Help us, Lord,
in faithfulness to keep your word.
Your kingdom come; your will be done
On earth as there before your throne.

Give us today our daily bread;
let ev’ryone be clothed and fed.
Forgive our sins, as we forgive
When others hurt us as we live.
Help us to dwell in harmony
and serve each other willingly.

In time of trial, rescue us.
Let your word give success to us
when, on our left and on our right,
temptations challenge us to fight.
Deliver us from evil’s pow’r
and comfort us in life’s last hour.

Amen. Yes, yes, it shall be so!
Build up our faith and make it grow;
Beset by doubt, help us believe
what here we ask we shall receive.
So, by your promise, in your name,
with loud Amen your Yes we claim!

Children’s Sermon     Rev. Sarah Wilson

The Peace (Please share peace by waving or showing the peace sign.)
The peace of Christ be with you always. People of God: And also with you.

Offering
Let us pray. Liberating God, you break the bonds of injustice and let the oppressed go free. Receive these offerings in thanksgiving for all your works of merciful power, and shape us as people of your justice and freedom. You we magnify and adore, through Jesus our Savior, People of God: Amen.

Communion
The Lord be with you.
People of God: And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
People of God: We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People of God: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread and gave thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

And now let us pray with confidence in the words that Jesus taught us:
People of God: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Invitation to Communion
Assisting Minister: Come and taste the joy of God!

For our at-home worshippers, you may take communion using these words:
The body of Christ, given for you.
The blood of Christ, shed for you.

Table Blessing
And now may the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his grace. People of God: Amen.

Prayer after Communion
Assisting Minister: Let us pray. Holy One, we thank you for the healing that springs forth abundantly from this table. Renew our strength to do justice, love kindness, and journey humbly with you. People of God: Amen.

Blessing
The God who faithfully brings forth justice and breaks the oppressor’s rod ☩ bless, strengthen, and uphold you, today and always. People of God: Amen.
